Mental health seminar

24th October 2016

‘Mental health…a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being. Mental health problems range from the worries that we all experience to long-term health conditions.’

We received a very interesting lecture based around children’s mental health. I believe that it is important that as trainee teachers, we are aware of mental health and how to deal with this appropriately. We explored the different signs of mental health and strategies that may be implemented within the classroom. I have not yet had a child within my class who has been diagnosed with a mental health condition, however it is important for me to be equipped with the relevant knowledge incase this does arise one day. I aim to constantly develop my knowledge of this as mental health and psychology is something that has always interested me! I also aim to keep up to date with effective strategies. However, it is also important to consider that different strategies will be suitable for different needs. You need to thoroughly know your child in order to implement effective strategies that empower the child.
